Just got this

Great pic I just got so you can see the actual size of a sign in book next to a standard-sized 9 year old girl. All the interior pages (20) were blank for writing. I just did another one of these and the mom put in a few family photos for people to write around.

Me

I drew myself, as well as the dog, my husband and the rest of the mishpacha for my own son's bar mitzvah on Dec. 5th. It was absolutely amazing. Kept me very busy and kept me from blogging for awhile. We had it on a boat with an "adventure" theme. Good thing too because the weather made it quite the adventure!

What was I thinking?

Since these are out in the mail now, I can show them. Although everyone loved these I spent way too much time creating a pop-up bar mitzvah invitation. However, the printed graphic on the front and interior was absolutely fantastic. I also had some 3' x 6' vinyl banners made which were so amazing I'm going to offer them on my order page.

Man of Peace - Animation for Podcast

I had the great opportunity to work again with my wonderful client The Friends Council on Education. We are revisiting a previous image I had drawn of Mr. William Penn and are spicing it up for a podcast. All in all we are making Mr. Penn Wave, my client (not pictured here) kick up her leg, Mr. Penn's hat fly off and a dove with an olive branch fly in and land on his shoulder. I am also including a cityscape that will be zoomed in on in the intro. I am including some of the illustrations that will be used by their animator in Flash. What a fun job! What a great client!

Jason's Sign-In Book

Here's a handsome guy whose coming up on his Bar Mitzvah. The below graphic is being used in a 13" x 10" sign-in book. The interior pages will all be blank. Its a hardcover book with a matching graphic dust jacket. This would look amazing displayed with one of our portrait posters in the background. This particular image was created for a great party coordination service called Evention, Inc. They handle events from top to bottom. Oliner Graphics is now offering sign in books on our order page grouped with one of our spectacular portrait posters! Check it out!

Theme sample

The following three images are all part of the same series. Its a nice example of what you can do with a theme.

I had another question recently about how I create my work and if I used a photoshop filter. I do not use any filters. I hand draw each of these images. I draw them in adobe illustrator using a small wacom tablet and a graphic pen. I use the photos of my models as starting points and references only. That's why I always ask my clients for a grouping of photos. I want to make sure I capture the spirit of the individual I'm drawing.

Friendly Podcast!

Here's some real fun! This graphic was created for a series of educational podcasts for the Friends Council on Education. I actually created two screens, a sign-on and a sign-off screen. My client wanted her image only on the exit image and requested a "bemused" expression on William Penn. She also wanted to be standing on top of city hall in Philadelphia with his stature! Wow, I think we've got it!

Here's what my client had to say: Liz, I just love these images!!!  They are fabulous. You got me PERFECT.  I can't believe it, actually! BEYOND loved it. ~Ginny

The whole shebang!

Picture 22

I'm having some fun here. This graphic has a lot going on. A full body graphic, an Indiana Jones theme, a New York night sky and the event will be held on a boat. This is a few steps up from the standard portrait package but will blow up unbelievably into a gorgeous print. Unlike most full body illustrations, the same amount of attention as a standard portrait was put into the Bar Mitzvah's face so that it could also be used as a stand alone blow up on its own. The intended use of the graphic is a welcoming sign onto the boat, sign-in art, table tents, place cards as well as being incorporated into the custom invitations. (For the layman reading this please note that the word "proof" has been written across the graphic for protection purposes. This will, of course, be removed when printing.)

One thing to keep in mind is that my artwork is drawn with the intent of blowing up BIG! Massive detail work is put into the graphics which can't be seen on the teeny tiny scale of the computer. Here's a blow up of the bar mitzvah's eye. These illustrations are super detailed and intense to draw!

Birthday invite

Went through an interesting process with this invite as the initial product provided by my online printer was not up to my standards. I had to have the entire order redone and put it into my custom format. Its really fabulous, crisp, colorful, rich and luxurious, I love it. My client loved the finished cards and told me they looked so good he didn't want to mail them!

Gavriella's Invites

Mock up of Gavriella's invite. Gavriella's actual invites will be placed in a "purple haze" card stock, not the midnight blue as seen here. This is just a sample to showcase how the petal base opens into the invitation. (Below images were taken with my lowly mac camera which gives a mirror image!) Gavriella chose to have our custom rsvp email site, that links directly to her mom's email address, handle guest information.

Here's what mom had to say: Liz, The invitations are amazing, very contemporary and unique. You have to see Gavi’s face when she looks at them. Thanks again for everything Liz, I am sure we will do business again.

Justice has been served!

I loved this! I received recognition for a logo I had created in an International Competition and was published in a book. The book is called "Killed Ideas" and it recognizes ideas of (cough) "creative brilliance" that have been cast off or under appreciated by clients. My logo was one of the top 50 selected out of hundreds submitted.

My logo is also in the running for the People's Choice Award at Killedideas.com so please cast a vote for me by June 30, 2009! Pick #13, Crew logo !!

LBI Foundation—Art Cards

I'm putting together some art cards for a wonderful "green" charity. The cards will be produced in a series and sold to support the Rain Gardens at the LBI foundation for the Arts and Sciences. The featured artist of the cards is multi-talented artist Paul Daukas whose work has been featured in two recent shows (and who is also my father). The below pieces, "Catching the Wind," "New Barney," and "Storm Coming," are part of an acrylic series he created featuring Long Beach Island, NJ. To find out more about the LBIF Rain Garden go to http://lbifscience.org

Here's what they had to say: The cards came out beautifully!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I received them Friday afternoon and we packaged up some for the dinner last night at the LBIF. Don't know how many sold, but they looked great. Thanks again for your beautiful layout and design work. Have a pack for you when I see you next. ~Sandy

Trade Show

Another trade show day. This one's in Teaneck, NJ. I made a bunch of these to hand out with assorted colors and portraits. I'm also trying to showcase some "theme illustration" pieces rather than just the straight portraits.

Can you believe, I put the wrong phone number on this handout?

I've been in this meeting.

People wonder why I wanted to stop working for agencies in the city and go on my own. This should be shown as a warning video to graphic design/illustration undergrads.

Note: I noticed this you tube video didn't pull up on my husband's PC due to lack of a plug in. So my apologies if this post didn't show properly.
